This prototype of the Xenomorph from the first Alien movie shows us what the iconic alien might have looked like. One of the film's producers rescued it from a dumpster after it was rejected from production. I produced this piece when the costume was being put up for auction in 2021. Working with a photographer from the auction house we made a photogrammetry scan that readers could place in their space.

This drum kit, which Ringo had used on his first U.S. tour with the Beatles had been sold to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Islay in tktk. When Ringo released a new album in 2021 we scanned this beautiful piece of Beatles memorabilia for Yahoo readers to experience. This piece won a 2021 National Arts & Entertainment Journalism award for best Animation/Moving Graphic.
Read the Storylaunch the experienceOne of the strengths of augmented reality is the ability to present important objects to an audience. For the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks I wanted to use this to highlight deeply personal stories. The piece pairs the stories of survivors and families of victims of the attacks with the objects they have kept to remember the day in a uniquely profound way.
This also marked a production first. Because of COVID restrictions I couldn't travel to scan the objects so I trained the subjects of the story to properly photograph their objects so that I could make photogrammetry models of them.
This piece won a silver award for responsible technology publications at the 2021 inaugural Anthem Awards.
After the eruption of the volcano in on the island of St. Vincent in 2021, I was able to use open source mapping tools and reports from the island to model the estimated size of the ash plume.

Read the Storylaunch the experienceWorking with the Jim Henson company our team at Yahoo sent a photographer to the Museum of Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, and I directed him through scanning many iconic Henson puppets. Then I did the photogrammetry and modeling in post.
We published several pieces from the shoot but this one was my favorite, puppets from the classic 1986 Henson feature Labyrinth.
On the 1 year anniversary of George Floyd's murder a Yahoo reporter in the field was able to scan this memorial that had been erected in the middle of the intersection in Minneapolis where Floyd had been killed. I produced this photogrammetry model of the site to bring this small piece of the community response into an immersive experience for our national audience.

Many of the exterior sets still stand and have been come pilgrimage sites for Star Wars tourists and an enduring part of the local economy.
